Prime Response To Call For Ban On 'Botox Parties'

It recommends that only those with medically recognised qualifications should carry out cosmetic procedures such as breast surgery, liposuction and botox injection, and that they must do so in a registered clinic with resuscitation equipment ready for use, if needed. Rosalind Hill, Managing Editor of PRIME says:#




"The Royal College of Surgeons' announcement comes as no surprise to those who work in the aesthetic industry, and has certainly been a long time coming. Perhaps one of the main issues for the reasons why we have seen so much negative coverage of the industry in the UK, is that there is no formal regulatory body covering aesthetic practice.

Although many argue that there is no need for this, as doctors, nurses, dentists have their own respective bodies, regulation certainly needs to be put in place to ensure that only medically - and properly - trained practitioners can administer injections of botulinum toxin.

A further issue - and something that PRIME completely advocates - is to ensure that all products used for aesthetic/cosmetic procedures are only carried out by those who are trained to do so, and that dermal fillers in particular be reclassified as medical devices.

This will continue to ensure safety for patients, and those few rogue traders who bring the profession into disrepute are no longer able to practice."
